Travel Within Islay

Getting to Islay
Getting around the island is easy by car or on a bike. It is approximately 25x25miles in size. May roads are single track but have plenty of passing places so be prepared to pull in. And don't forget to wave to anyone you pass - it's called the Islay wave and the locals will all give you this friendly greeting.

Buses On Islay
There are two bus routes which use the main roads on the island. The 450 runs from Bowmore in the centre of the island to Portnahaven in the south west, while the 451 runs between Port Askaig in the north-east down to Port Ellen and Ardbeg in the south. For more details and timetables click here
